I was so happy this morning to see an e-mail from Heidi at JoySpring Midwifery this morning. Unfortunately reading is reduced me to a blubbering mess

"Unfortunately, I do not have a spot available for you. You will need

to stay with your current provider or contact another care provider
for your pregnancy.

We have included an info sheet on local resources that you may find
helpful, along with the brochure: "Healthy Birth Your Way"

We would strongly encourage you to contact a doula, they are worth
every penny, especially since you are having a VBAC! I am sorry that
we can not help you, I know how frustrating it is to not be able to
get midwifery care.

We wish you the best with your pregnancy, labor, birth, and postpartum."

Cool, sell the idea of a doula TO A DOULA. And attached was a slap in the face brochure that listed some popular pregnancy and birth titles, and links to sites that I should hope any mother in the area should already know about. And their recommended health clinic was the one I was WITH for my last pregnancy- the group of baboons that put me through hell and back in the first place.

I feel so defeated. Like the whole fucking world is ganging up to beat me down. WHY can't I have this? Who needs and deserves this more than I do? I don't even know where to go from here.

  1. don't give up yet. Stay strong. I fully believe that you will get your VBAC you do deserve it more then any person that I know. my thoughts are with you today, I know that its a knock down, but don't let it be. Keep your head held high and keep persevering!

  2. Don't give up because of a generic letter. If they are full, they are full. Contact them next month, and every month thereafter. Sadly, pregnancies do end unexpectedly, and a spot may open up. Good luck and we are praying for you to find what you need when you need it.

  4. Have you contacted ALL the midwives in town?? I know that Beginnings doesn't do VBacs, but check with everyone else.

  5. All of them. Every single one. They all take VBAC, some in hospital some at home, but yes, I am running out of options.

  6. (hugs) I really believe this will work out Vyky! I can imagine how crushed you are right now, but you DO have options, and you don't have to decide on a particular path right now! This is just a little bump.

Stay on their waiting list (and every other waiting list you can get on) and call as often as you can to check if they have a spot.

Have you considered going with one of the midwives who does hospital vbacs? That way you could benefit from the midwifery model of prenatal care and plan to UC if everything is going well, but have a safety net in place if you do need a care provider at the end. Believe me, a midwife attended hospital birth is entirely different than one with an OB!

Vyky, you are such a strong mama! I KNOW you'll make this work, one way or another!

  7. I would really try and get on with Barb Striver (I believe her last name is), she is pretty much only does home births, and I don't think she is opposed to VBACS.

{{{hugs}}} I agree with everything Carlin says too

  9. Try the outter areas Sherwood Park, Leduc, St.ab, Red deer... When we had our birthing classes we had some people up from edmonton come here in Calgary because they couldn't find any Mid-wives

  10. Oh Vyky, I've certainly been there! Take a deep breath and go one step at a time. Have you read the book "Birthing the Easy Way by Someone Who learned the Hard way" yet? It's by Sheila Stubbs and I would highly recommend it. As Well as "Simply give birth".
    Good Luck Sweetie :)
